Income Tax

Non residents are subject to UK income tax on rental income after deducting allowable expenses. The self-assessment individual tax return for each year runs from 6 April to 5 April.

Capital Gains Tax (CGT)

Non residents are liable for CGT on any gains made from the sale of UK residential property. For the year 2022-23 the first £12,300 from any gain is exempt from tax. This will reduce to the first £6,000 for the year 2023-24.

Capital Gains Tax

Inheritance Tax (IHT)

If any property is held at the date of death, the value less any borrowings on the property above £325,000 is subject to IHT at 40%. There is no IHT if assets are transferred to the spouse on death.
